The Ram 1500 vs. the Ford F-150

Both the Ram 1500 and the Ford-150 are a couple of workhorses that you’ll be able to find at a used truck dealership in Chicago. And while Dodge and Ford might be rival carmakers, you as the consumer can’t go wrong with either of these stylish, useful pickups. To help you make the decision between these two great options, we’ll review the exterior, interior, and performance of each of these pickups.

Read on for our review of the Ram 1500 vs. the Ford F-150.

The Ram 1500

Blending the luxury of a modern SUV with the usefulness of a pickup truck is the Ram 1500. Older models might not be quite as luxurious as the newer ones but any year is a good year for the Ram 1500.

For such a large truck—it weighs about half a ton— the Ram 1500 is impressively stylish. Yet its sporty look does nothing to compromise its workhorse capabilities. On the newest model of the Ram 1500, you get the option of either a 5’7″ or 6’4″ cargo bed. Older Ram models—which you’ll find plenty of at a used car dealer in Illinois—feature crosshair grilles and the classic Ram badge.

Whether you’re hauling cargo or simply commuting to work in the Chicagoland area, the Ram 1500’s interior feels more like a luxurious SUV than it does a pickup truck. The cab of the Ram 1500 has plenty of space for passengers and driver alike. Plus, you’ll have all the infotainment you need with connectivity for iPhones and Androids.

The Ram 1500 is available with a V-6 or V-8. The V-6 is obviously more fuel-efficient with mpg up to 20 in the city and 26 on the highway. Despite its fuel efficiency, the V-6 still packs plenty of punch; the newest model can tow up to 12,750 pounds and produce 480 lb-ft of torque, so whatever needs hauling can be hauled by your Ram 1500.

Ford F-150

The Ford F-150 has been around for quite a while, getting its start in the 1970s and its still around for a reason: people love this versatile workhorse of a pickup truck.

The F-150 has remained true to its roots as a workhorse truck but as pickups have become increasingly luxurious, the F-150 has kept up. Newer F-150s come standard with a four-door model that has a shorter bed, perfect for families.

Depending on the level of F-150 that you go with, you’ll have the option of either a 2-door cab with more bed space or a 4-door cab with less bed space. Either way, the F-150 you choose will come equipped with plenty of creature comforts including an intuitive infotainment system, climate control, and plenty of space to store passengers and luggage alike.

The F-150, like we said, is a workhorse. The newest models produce 440 lb-ft of torque and are capable of towing an astounding 13,200 pounds. The V-6 model of the F-150 produces fuel economy of up to 22 mpg in the city and 30 on the highway.
