The Mazda6 vs. the Volkswagen Passat

If you’re looking for used car dealers in Chicago, your first and only stop should be one of Hawk Auto’s convenient locations. We always maintain a great inventory of used family cars. For example, a Mazda6 may be just the car for you and your family, but if not, you might also want to consider the Volkswagen Passat

It’s hard to drive very far on any highway or Chicago street without encountering a Mazda, and one of the company’s most popular models is the Mazda6. The Mazda6 is more than an ordinary midsize family sedan. Instead, with its chiseled body and beautiful interior, the Mazda6 could easily be mistaken for a far more expensive car.

With the Mazda6 you have a choice of five trim levels – Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve and Signature, and no matter your choice, the Mazda6 gives you plenty of bang for your buck!

Take the entry-level Sport. It comes with a lot of desirable standard features for both safety and comfort. Among others, these include blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, low-speed forward-collision warning with emergency braking, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, 8.0 inch Mazda Connect touchscreen and dual-zone automatic climate control.

For a little more luxury, consider the Touring trim level. It comes with 19-inch wheels, faux leather-trimmed seats, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.

Finally, the Mazda6 gives you a choice of two engines. There’s the standard, fuel-efficient Skyactiv-G, 2.5L engine that incorporates Cylinder Deactivation, a system that saves fuel by shutting down two of the engine’s four cyclers when you’re cruising at a moderate speed. Or you can upgrade to the Pressure Turbocharged Skyactiv-G 2.5T that delivers 250 HP and plenty of zip and power to spare.

Volkswagen Passat

If the Mazda6 is not your choice, consider the Volkswagen Passat. Despite its German name, the Passat is a thoroughly American family sedan. Admittedly, its exterior features are workmanlike and practical, not flashy, but it’s still a solid choice with its reliable handling, impressive efficiency and huge interior, especially its backseat, great if you have lots of kids or gear to haul.

With the Passat, you have a choice of two models, the really German-sounding Wolfsburg and the SE R-Line. The base model Wolfsburg gives you 17-inch wheels, heated front seats, keyless entry with push-button start and a standard 6.3 inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Auto Android capability.

Every Passat model also has standard driver-assist features like forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

In contrast to the entry-level Wolfsburg, the SE R-Line gives you a more upscale exterior with LED head- and taillights and 19-inch wheels. The interior is also slightly upgraded with a more complete infotainment system.

For power, you only have one option with the Passat, a 174 HP turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. EPA estimated MPG is 25 city/36 highway.

Really, for a reliable family sedan, you can’t go wrong with either the Mazda6 or the Volkswagen Passat. So, come by a Hawk Auto location today and let us help you make your selection.
