Subaru Forester vs. Volkswagen Tiguan

If you’re looking for used cars in Chicago and you’re interested in a compact SUV, Hawk Auto has what you need. Two fan favorites in the compact SUV class are the Subaru Forester and the Volkswagen Tiguan, both great cars for adventurous weekend trips, carpooling, or both.

To help you compare these used cars in Illinois and guide your decision-making process, we’ll compare each of these versatile vehicles.

Subaru Forester

Subaru Forester

The latest model of the Subaru Forester has been fully redesigned in 2019, but its predecessors in previous model years are an attractive option as well.

The Forester has a sporty look that you might expect from a Subaru Outback but the exterior is a little larger, with a higher roof that allows for more cargo space and higher seats. The Premium model adds a panoramic sunroof, 17-inch wheels, and other features that make this a stylish-looking vehicle.

With the Subaru Forester, there’s not a bad seat in the house. Each of the five seats provides plenty of legroom and cushion. In addition to that, you’ll enjoy an otherwise spacious interior with plenty of cargo space. Plus, the infotainment system is intuitive, easy-to-use, and compatible with Apple or Android devices.

Though the Forester doesn’t provide the most power—depending on the model, horsepower is in the low 200s to high 100s, its gas mileage is great. The newest model gets 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Plus, for many of the more recent model years, all-wheel drive comes standard with the Forester.

Volkswagen Tiguan

Volkswagen has been making great cars for what seems like forever and the Tiguan is no exception.

The Tiguan sports a nice, compact exterior design that mimics the square look of more traditional American SUVs. However, though it mirrors a more traditional SUV, when you see it, you’ll still recognize the classic VW design elements.

Depending on the model year, the Tiguan may be available with seven seats, though five come standard. Each seat provides plenty of legroom, though if you choose to go with the third row of seats, you’ll sacrifice a bit of cargo space.

In addition to the comfy seating, you’ll find an upscale infotainment system that’s familiar to Volkswagen vehicles called Car-Net. This system includes a large screen that’s compatible with Apple and Android devices.

The Tiguan is similar to the Forester in terms of performance. You’ll usually find these—regardless of the model year—with a horsepower of around 180. Newer models get close to 30 miles per gallon on the highway and about 21 mpg on city streets. Moreover, depending on the exact type you select, the Tiguan is available in all-wheel or front-wheel drive.

As far as used cars in Illinois are concerned, you can’t go wrong in a Forester or a Tiguan. Both are great for family adventures without being overly large. Come visit Hawk Auto today to test drive one and decide which one is right for you.
